PROJECT:

Background information

Following the success of the Global Health Short Course last year, we have organised it once again. Ithas been initiated in response to overwhelming student feedback for the need for more tangible and practical teachings in global health. Inspirational and motivational speakers are great, but practical workshops are invaluable for life - that is what the Global Health Short Course aims to achieve.

We will be having guest speakers and workshops in different areas, such as global health issues overviews, approaches to dealing with international health issues, primary health care models, disaster management, Indigenous health, and medical science sessions in diagnosing and treating prevalent epidemic and pandemic diseases.

23 March 2011: Glenn Flannagan from Companion House where support and services are provided to refugees and asylum seekers who have come to Australia to seek safety from persecution, torture and war related trauma. He will be discussing more about refugee health as well as their background and needs.

6 April 2011: Dr Paul Byleveld was a major in ADF, having served in Bougainville, East Timor as well as Banda Aceh in Indonesia. He is highly experienced in environmental health and communicable diseases. He will be talking about Humanitarian Emergencies - water, sanitation and public health.

Each session will be held at the the BamBi Seminar Room at the Peter Baume Building, commencing at 5pm.

All EnSIGN members are welcome to attend each session and a pizza dinner afterwards. Non EnSIGN members will be required to sign up for membership for EnSIGN at the first session they attend with a $5 fee.
