07.07.2009   5 ANU students part of EnSIGN travelled to Brisbane for the annual AMSA Global Health Conference. It was held from 2-5 July at the beautiful University of Queensland. The students included: Shruti Jayachandra, Steve Peterson, Kiran Atmuri, Andrew Nguyen and Ana G. The conference that is about global health issues included guest speakers, workshops, team challenges and panel discussions. Topics discussed ranged from HIV/AIDs to disaster management to Indigenous health. Some of the speakers included: Gabi Hollows from the Fred Hollows Foundation, Tania Major, Dr Sujit Bramochary for the Insititute for Indian Mother and Child, Maxine Whitaker, Prof Ian Frazer (HPV vaccine Founder), Dr Dan Murphy, Murray Proctor and Dr Nick Coatsworth from MSF. Over 300+ students attended from across Australia and New Zealand which was very exciting. The conference not only included an academic program, but also a packed social calander for the big nights out in Brisbane. A conference review reportwill be submitted by Kiran and Shruti for the Auricle, so keep an eye out for that if you are interested. Next year's GHC will be in Hobart, and if this year's GHC is anything to go by, we wouldn't miss it for the world, and we hope many more ANU students can be part of it.
